№ 02The scienceThree findings — one blend logic

The science of the blend

FINDING 01

The blend is the point.

Corn brings energy. Protein, fat, minerals, and digestibility turn that energy into a real deer nutrition program. The blend is the point.

Full comparison: corn vs premium feed for deer

FINDING 02

Fat first. Roasted.
Whole grain.

Fat carries about 2.25× the energy density of protein or carbohydrates, which is why high-fat deer feed can deliver more usable energy in every bite.

FINDING 03

What the deer actually uses.

Total Digestible Nutrients is an energy measure: the share of a feed a deer's gut can actually turn into energy. Two bags can read the same on a tag and feed completely differently in the rumen.

Solid — used by the deerStriped — passes through

Relative scale, not exact figures. The more of a bag a deer's gut can actually turn into energy and growth, the more of every bite works — where a compressed protein pellet loses much of its bulk to fiber the rumen can't use, a roasted whole-grain mix is built to be digested.

№ 03What to feed deer and when — by regionRut timing changes everything

Deer feeding strategy is regional.

Rut timing, season length, winter severity, summer stress, natural forage, and hunting pressure all shift by state. An Alabama buck is still chasing in January while a Carolina buck is recovering. The feed program should follow the deer, not the calendar on the wall.

Deep South

Alabama

One of the latest, most variable ruts in the country. North Alabama peaks mid-December into January; most of the state runs later still, into early February — so recovery feeding stays useful deep into late winter.

South Carolina

Among the earliest seasons in the nation. Attraction windows open in late summer while bucks are still finishing velvet.

Georgia

Most of the state ruts late October through November, with wide zone-to-zone swings. A heavy acorn year pulls deer off the feed.

Florida

The most variable rut in whitetail country. South Florida can rut in late summer while the Panhandle runs into February.

Deep South

Mississippi

A late, drawn-out rut like Alabama's. The Delta and Hills breed December into January while the southeast runs into February. Long seasons and heavy summer heat make feeding matter well past the peak.

East Coast

North Carolina

Coastal deer rut in October, the Piedmont in mid-November, and the mountains not until early December. One state, several different feed calendars.

Mid-South

Tennessee

A back-half-of-November rut, and then a whole winter with nothing left in the woods. Baiting is legal on private land for the first time, under the new state license.

Midwest

Kansas

The textbook mid-November rut. What makes Kansas bucks big is the four months after it — crops off, prairie dormant, green-up not until April.

Whitetail Country

The classic November rut pattern. Post-rut recovery, spring minerals, summer growth, fall attraction, winter survival.

Deer minerals

Grip Grub — deer mineral attractant

Vitamins & minerals deer crave.

A hardened antler is roughly one-fifth calcium and phosphorus, and does rebuild mineral reserves through gestation and lactation. Grip Grub supports year-round herd health and keeps mineral sites active — the foundation a serious feed program stands on.
